Native American Portraits
Photographing Native Americans in their natural state was the principal aim of Carl Moon. He tried to show the Indian as he lived before civilization hampered his freedom, warped his views of life and changed his picturesque customs and mode of dress. Nine of the twelve portraits included in this collection are from Moon's original hand-colored photographs. The other three are sepia toned. All twelve were selected from a group of negatives Moon thought were his very best. All of these pictures are suitable for framing.

"About the only thing we have thus far overlooked taking from the Indian is his right to perform his religious rites with their accompanying dances in his own way." -Carl Moon
